WELCOME TO THE OCBA!

Welcome to the Orange County Beekeepers Association!  The OCBA is here to be a resource and a community for all those who are interested in bees.  Our club was founded in 1976, and has been serving the beekeepers and community of Orange County ever since.  We are very excited to have you join our wonderful and ever-growing group of bee enthusiasts.  In this welcome packet you should find several things that will help you get started.  Our club has some wonderful resources and benefits that will help you along your way in the wonderful venture of beekeeping.

Member Resources and Benefits

  • The Monthly Newsletter    Monthly newsletter keeps you up to date not onlywith what’s going on with the club but other pertinent news from the bee world and other items of interest.
  • Library    The club maintains a library of beekeeping books that can be checked out by members.  This collection is growing in 2012.
  • Bulk Ordering   This includes ordering package bees and queens as well as buying honey labels in bulk to save members money and shipping costs.
  • Extracting Equipment     The club owns honey extracting equipment so you don’t have to!  This is available for free to club members.  The collection of available items will continue to grow in the future.
  • Venues to Sell Honey     The OCBA has an agreement with the Pitcher Park Foundation to have a docent at the Honey House at the first Sunday of every month to talk about beekeeping and sell honey (your own honey)!  We also participate in other special events where honey is sold throughout the year.
  • Political Representation   The OCBA is officially affiliated with the California State Beekeepers Association.  Between the OCBA and the CSBA, beekeepers are represented locally and statewide to try to ease restrictions on beekeeping and otherwise politically assist the beekeeping community.
  • Networking     We are affiliated with a wide variety of other clubs, from local gardens clubs to beekeeping clubs in other areas.
  • Other Members    The most obvious benefit of membership in the OCBA is access to the experience of fellow members!  Members love to help new beekeepers in any way they can!

THE ORANGE COUNTY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION

The OCBA was formed in the 1970′s. Our membership is currently comprised of mostly small-scale beekeepers who are dedicated to keeping bees in the urban environment. The roots here in OC are agricultural, and we haven’t forgotten that.  Copyright 2024
